Stunning specimen featuring two brilliant Tourmalines on Cleavelandite blades!
The largest Tourmaline is mostly red but changes over to a greenish color just
below where it touches the Cleavelandite. The termination at top is perfect and the
sides are incredibly glassy and flashy! The surface striations leap out at you as you
roll the specimen from side to side. The smaller companion Tourmaline to the left is a
mix of red and green coloration but also has a full termination. This is one of the prettiest
California Tourmaline combos that I've seen recently and there is no damage to the tips.

Incredible crystalline "feather" of Electrum (Silver and Gold mix) on Quartz matrix!
Looking at this crystal feather under a 10X loupe is amazing to say the least! The super
fine dendritic growth patterns are incredible and shimmer luster from end to end when
the specimen is rotated. Almost every one of the specimen from this small find in Nevada
were found off matrix. This was the only specimen I found still on the matrix and I made
certain it was stabilized to keep it in place. I rarely offer Electrum specimens and this
is one I can highly recommend. I seriously doubt I'll find another any time soon.

Crystalline Native Gold on white Quartz matrix!
What a gorgeous Native Gold! It's completely crystalline with flattened dendritic crystal growth to
the right and dodecahedrons and trigons crystals to the left. With this specimen, you get both varieties!
When the specimen was forming, a small seam probably opened up in the Quartz matrix and allowed for
the development of larger, unflattened crystals. The amazing thing is this happened on both the front
and back side of the specimen! The flattened crystalline growth to the right is pure dendritic, displaying
beautiful herringbone patterns throughout. This specimen is a wonder when see under a 10X loupe!
All the Gold surfaces are extremely bright and super lustrous! I'm proud to offer this specimen for
only the second time on the website. This is a Gold that is truely worthy of the finest collections!

Tucson2015-323CovelliteLeonardMineMontana6cm.jpg (512051 bytes)

Stunning specimen of Covellite crystals in cluster with Quartz on matrix!
This is the finest Covellite specimen I've seen in years and I always look for quality Covellites
because it is one of my favorite minerals. This specimen is incredibly well balanced with highly
lustrous crystal blades measuring to almost 3 cm in size! The color is a deep reddish purple
with iridescent highlighting that reflects flashes of blue and pure purple. The arrangement
of the Covellite crystals is unique in that you have large crystals along the back wall of the
matrix with crystals jutting forward towards the front edge, giving the specimen a brilliant,
3-dimensional appearance. And did I mention the luster? It's INCREDIBLE!! A specimen
of this calibre with sharp, well formed, large, and completely terminated blades comes around
maybe once or twice a decade. This is a specimen I would love to put back in my own cabinet
but since every specimen I own is always presented on this website, the opportunity is yours.

MUSEUM QUALITY specimen of Native Wire Silver with Acanthite!
This is without a doubt, a very special Native Silver. Not only is it incredibly well balanced and
aesthetic, it's also displayable from both sides! The bottom portion of the specimen is composed
of numerous short, curling wires of Silver on an Acanthite base. If you turn the specimen over
you will see Silver wires and hundreds of small grey Acanthite crystals growing atop and nearly
covering a bright white matrix - possibly Calcite. From this base, thicker wires of Native Silver
grow out and upwards until they terminate as smaller wires that twist and turn in every direction.
At the base point, these thicker wires measures 1 cm in width or larger. I consider this to be one
of the finest small cab German Silver specimens I've seen and possibly the finest when everything
is taken into consideration. Specimen of this calibre are not common so this is a rare opportunity.

Tucson2012-32CreediteFluoriteNavidadMineMexico6cm.jpg (148645 bytes)

Artistic combination of Orange Creedite with bluish-green Fluorite crystals!
Definately one of the prettiest combinations I've seen of this material. The Creedite crystals
spray outwards from their top cluster and sparkle like crazy in even faint lighting. The Fluorite
surfaces are very lustrous and the crystals appear between the seams and lend support to
the Creedite on both the front and back sides. Although slightly etched, these are some of the
most complete Fluorites you will find in one of these combo specimens. A lovely miniature!

Amazing specimen featuring a TWINNED Wulfenite blade on Limonite matrix!
The incredible twinned Wulfenite blade top center measures nearly 3 cm in size and is super glassy and lustrous!
It is surrounded by numerous fine blades of translucent reddish-orange Wulfenite inside the Limonite matrix
seam which has served to protect the crystals so well. This is one of the finest specimen of Red Cloud Wulfenite
that I've seen in years and with the twinned crystal, definately one of the most unique. Red Cloud specimens of
this calibre are just not available anymore and most have to come from older collections as this piece did. This
specimen is in excellent condition and the crystal blades are very reflective. They are all very translucent
and all display sharp form with chisel-tip edges. The picture above says it all about this aesthetic specimen.

Tucson2014-134AzuriteKhanongOpenPitLaos83mm2.jpg (309796 bytes)

Brilliant specimen featuring Azurite crystals atop Malachite on Goethite matrix!
This specimen could easily be confused for a Milpillas Azurite but it's actually much rarer.
It's from a small find in Laos and the quality is every bit as good as Milpillas. The crystals are
super sharp and incredibly glassy with a blinding luster. Under a camera flash or in case lighting
the crystals light up with an intense blue that is the trademark of the finest Azurites in the world.
These crystals measure to 1.5 in size and sit atop a layer of Malachite pseudomorphing Azurite.
The Hematite style of matrix is reminiscent of classic Bisbee specimens. I cherry picked a small
selection of this incredible Azurites and this was one of the finest, most pristine specimens available.

Denver2013-243CalciteNaicaMexico9cm.jpg (183459 bytes)

An amazing specimen of Calcite crystals with iridescent Pyrite from Naica!
This is one of my favorite finds from the entire show! I can't recall the last time I came across
a Calcite specimen of this magnitude from Naica. The Calcite crystals are glassy lustrous and
for the most part, doubly terminated. The aesthetics are off the chart as the crystals climb one
another up the middle of the specimen which is covered with small Calcites and shades of green,
red, and gold in the form of tiny iridescent Pyrite crystals. The Calcites are also quite gemmy
with the largest two measuring 5 cm and 4.7 cm in size. Contacts are minimal and the overall
specimen has a look that will impress at first glance. This is a special piece from an older find.

Gorgeous rhombs of Rhodochrosite on Tetrahedrite with needle Quartz!
This specimen is as close to true perfection as you can get in a miniature sized Rhodochrosite
from the Sweet Home Mine. The rhombs are of the deepest color with glassy, uncontacted
faces and an incredible gemminess all the way down to the matrix. The backing is a dark
Tetrahedrite which further enhances the rich color. Quartz needles and Chalcopyrite are
also present on this fine specimen. Helmut Bruckner cherry picked this piece from hundreds
to be his own collection piece and it's very easy to see why. A specimen that is truely dazzling!

Amazing specimen of Beryl var. Aquamarine crystals with Quartz on Albite and Muscovite!
Breathtaking, stunning, beautiful - pick your own adjective! This is one incredible looking specimen
and one that I never get tired of viewing. It's also quite rare, being from Nepal, and was displayed in
Gene Meieran's Beryl case in 2003. I've been told that there is no finer matrix Aquamarine known
to exist from Nepal and even if there is one somewhere, it's hard to imagine it having a more
aesthetic display. The two Aquamarine crystals atop the Muscovite-coated Albite both measure
8 cm in size. They're both doubly terminated and display a translucent blue color that glows under
lighting. Scattered atop the Aqua tips, Albite, and Muscovite are small shiny black Schorl crystals
which only further accentuate the color contrast of every mineral. Add to the mix a couple of
transparent and terminated Quartz points and you have the makings of one incredible specimen.

Denver2015-77label.jpg (42971 bytes)

Exceptional specimen of Native Wire Silver on Calcite crystals!
This is one of the most unique specimens I've seen from Kongsberg recently. It is covered with dozens
of curling and twisting wires of Native Silver, many of which spread out at the top, like a forest of trees
atop a mountain peak. The white Calcite base is actually stacked hexagonal crystals, with distinct faces
along the top and edges. The Silver wires rise up from between these crystals and emerge from the tops,
sides, and base where they became really numerous in number. The wires are mostly firm and sturdy and
range from lustrous white to slightly patinaed with a light Acanthite coating in the darker portions. This
is a tremendously aesthetic and classic specimen of Native Silver on Calcite at a very reasonable price.

Measures 8.4 cm by 5.3 cm by 3 cm in total size.

Denver2015-38HeliodorPadreParaisoBrazil229mm.jpg (293999 bytes)

Exceptional large cabinet specimen featuring crystals of Beryl var Heliodor perched atop Albite matrix!
This is not only a stunning specimen with incredible aesthetics and gemminess - It's also an incredibly rare
specimen as very few Heliodors from this locality are found on matrix. Especially specimens of this size with
this many crystals! The crystals here display a deep yellowish-green coloration with gem interiors and lustrous
surfaces. There is the slightest of etching to some of the faces which imparts a satiny, somewhat matted luster
which really picks up and helps intensify the light as it rolls from one end of the crystals to the other. The large
horizontal Heliodor measures an impressive 15.2 cm in length, 22.7 cm if you include the portion which steps
back at the junction of the vertical Heliodor near the far right. Almost every termination is complete except
for a few. This is pretty amazing considering the number of crystals atop the etched white matrix. There is
gemminess all throughout with some minor inclusions scattered about. One inclusion which serves as the
diagnositic mark for this specimen is the yellowish-brown spot near the far left termination of the longest
crystal. This thin spot actually sits partially atop the crystal surface as well as slightly below. These are
concentrated areas of Iron Hematite which is very common in Heliodor crystals from this locality. This
specimen is mostly free of them however. This is easily the finest, largest matrix plate I've ever seen or
offered from Padre Paraíso and it would make a superb centerpiece in the finest of mineral collections.

Brilliant specimen featuring large horizontal green Pyromorphite crystals on orange Arsenian Pyromorphite!
This is a superb specmen from the famous 1980-1981 find that was known for its brilliant luster and distinctive
yellowish-green Pyromorphite crystals. The luster is shiny-wet and incredibly flashy. The crystal faces are
glassy smooth and in nearly pristine condition. The crystals themselves rise above the orange Pyromorphite
and lift upwards atop one another at the top, giving the specimen a 3-dimensional appearance that is both
aesthetic and impressive. The crystals measure to 1.5 cm in size and contrast beautifully with the botryoidal
Arsenian Pyromorphite. I consider this to be one of the finest specimens I've seen from this older find which
pre-dates the more recent find of orange-yellow specimens which appeared in the 1990's. This is a true classic.

is a perfect Quartz crystal and to its right is a large blade of pink Lepidolite which adds a beautiful
contrast to the blue of the Indicolite. The specimen is in in excellent condition overall with no contacts

Amazing fan shaped specimen of Native Silver crystals from Michigan!
This is a specimen that always captures attention when displayed in my mineral cases and it's easy
to understand why. The structure is pure Silver from top to bottom, with two dendritic fans of sharp
and well defined Silver crystals and Silver spinels. The surfaces are highly lustrous and bright with just
the lightest bit of golden patina. This is easily one of the largest and most impressive Michigan Silvers
I've offered on the website in a good number of years. Silvers of this magnitude were mined back in the
mid to late 1800's and very few have survived the decades since. This piece represents a rare opportunity.

UNIQUE! Breathtaking specimen of gemmy Aquamarine crystals with a natural matrix arch!
Nature can be amazing and mineral specimens are one of the best examples of this... This cabinet sized specimen
displays two absolutely pristine Aquamarine crystals, both clear as glass and completely gem, sitting atop Albite
matrix with Muscovite and Schorl. The amazing thing about this specimen, other than the clarity of the Aquas, is the
completely natural arch which extends down the far right side of the matrix. The Albite and Muscovite, with a bit of Schorl,
have grown together and formed a complete arch! An amazing and unique feature I've never seen before on an Aquamarine
specimen. How did it form? Possibly from the Albite and Muscovite overgrowing another Aquamarine crystal which at some
point became dislodged in the pocket. This is my theory but I can't explain how the arch survived intact if this is the case.

Wonderful example of Pyrite on Quartz points from the famous Spruce Claim!
This is a cabinet sized specimen and it is in superb condition. Almost every Quartz point is complete
and terminated (very uncommon) and the largest Pyrite crystals, including the 6 cm whopper in the
middle, are undamaged with an intense flowing luster atop the surfaces! I count over half a dozen
pyritohedrons of various sizes in the grouping. The only incompleteness to speak of is on the bottom
side where the specimen was separated from the pocket matrix but even there, most of the Pyrites
are not affected. This is one of the finest cabinet sized specimens from the Spruce Claim that I've
ever offered on the website and it's definately in the best condition. This is a true centerpiece.

Incredible specimen of Forsterite var Peridot!
This is one of the finest Peridot specimens I've seen in the past decade. I sold one similar
to this years ago and it is currently in the HOF rooms. The crystals were of equal size and
gemminess and it has taken a long time to find another. This crystal measures 4.4 cm or
nearly 2 inches in size! It is as gemmy as gemmy gets and looks like green glass when held
up to a light. I literally see no internal growth noise or fracturing - the crystal is that clear.
The large Peridot sits atop a matrix of smaller Peridot crystals of varying gemminess with
a perfect termination and glassy luster. Specimens of this magnitude are exceedingly rare.

Denver2012-17SilverFreibergGermany10cm.jpg (90023 bytes)

Exceptional and very original specimen of Native Wire Silver with Acanthite!
I discovered this incredibly beautiful Native Silver during the show and it comes from a well
known German collector who has some of the finest Freiberg Silvers I've ever seen. This was
one of his favorite specimens and it's easy to see why considering the remarkable aesthetics
of the twisting and curling wires. My favorite is the center wire which I call the "monkey tail"
but the top wire which forms a curling hook and the left wire which looks windblown also add
character and balance to this visually stunning specimen. The wires are all very sturdy and
striated with a sparkling Acanthite drusy coating which attests to the originality of the specimen.
Most German Silvers on the market have had their Acanthite coating removed but this specimen
is intact, just like the day it was mined, and that is a very rare thing to find. I haven't seen a more
original German Silver on the market in the past decade so this is truely a unique opportunity!

in several years at least. The sparkling surface of Quartz covered host rock is beautifully graced by
bright golden leaves and dendrites which spread out from the middle and drape across the very top of
the specimen. The color is a much richer golden-yellow than what one normally sees from this locality,
indicating a higher purity. The surface luster is off the charts and the aesthetics speak for themselves.

Denver2013-59CitrineAdamsFarmHiddeniteAlexanderCoNCwhite.jpg (220760 bytes)

Incredibly rare! Huge crystal of Quartz var. Citrine from North Carolina!
This may possibly be the finest Citrine ever discovered in North Carolina! It was discovered during
Emerald mining in 2008 at the Adams Farm and the miners stated they have never seen anything from the
region that even comes close in terms of size and quality. The crystal itself is doubly terminated and nearly
a floater in that it only has a tiny bit of matrix on the back side near the bottom suggestion some sort of
attachment at one time. The color is a rich, glowing golden-orange and it is consistant throughout the large
crystal and its two smaller crystal companions. As displayed in the above photo, the surfaces of the crystal
are glassy smooth with distinct growth patterns and faces, giving the crystal an almost faceted appearance.
The interior is completely gem and transparent with a very light phantom.
The crystal is complete all the
way around with no detractions. There are your minor bumps which is normal for a large crystal but nothing
noticeable. The natural faceting and growth formation of the Citrine is incredible and that is what grabs your
eye immediately, followed by the gemminess and glowing Citrine coloration. This unique specimen represents
one of those rare opportunities to actually own the best of the best and they don't come around very often.

Exceptional specimen of Molybdenite on Quartz matrix!
This is the finest Molybdenite I've ever seen from Kingsgate. The front crystal is large, measuring
nearly 6 cm in size while the back crystal measures 5 cm in size. The surfaces are super lustrous
and mirror bright and the crystal form is perfect with none of the usual curling you usually see on
larger Molybdenite crystals because they are so often contacted along the very edges. The crystals
sit atop a hard white Quartz matrix, firmly embedded with no risk of detachment. I have searched for
well over a decade for a better Molybdenite specimen and to this day, have not found one anywhere.

Incredible combination specimen featuring a large Manganoan Calcite perched atop Quartz points!
This is easily one of the most beautiful specimens from the entire show. The aesthetics are off the charts
and the color of the Manganoan Calcite is so rich and bright pink that you have to look twice to believe
what you're seeing. The structure of this Calcite is completely different from what you normally see in
that is is composed of layers of intensely pink, elongated crystals. They feather upwards towards the top
termination in a way that visually reminds me of Anhydrite or a sheath of wheat. The Manganoan Calcite
measures 12 cm in length and is doubly terminated with a smaller termination on the bottom end. It sits
beautifully alongside a cluster of terminated Quartz crystals, some of which have slight greenish inclusions
of Chlorite. The largest vertical Quartz crystal measures 9 cm in length. It is accented at the base by a
small cluster of light pink stacked Calcites. Overall, this specimen is a true centerpiece, not in size but
because of its visual impact. I rarely encounter specimens of such aesthetical quality. This is truly one of
those very rare specimens that looks almost too good to be true - but it is. And it's in excellent condition.

Incredibly aesthetic specimen of Native Wire Silver!
When it comes to fine Native Wire Silver specimens from Freiberg, this specimen is literally a work of art!
With a wonderful balance and its stunning eye appeal, this rates as one of the most attactive (and unique)
specimens I've ever seen or offered on the website. The base is composed of dozens of thin Silver wires
which nest together before giving rise to nearly a dozen twisting wires of various sizes which climb upwards.
The thickest Silver wire is actually quite thick at 1 cm and can be seen to the far right, just above the base.
It also sprouts upwards in the form of thinner wires on the right side where it is joined by numerous others!

Exceptional specimen of Native Sulfur crystals on Aragonite matrix!
This stunning Sulfur caught my eye the second I saw it at the show. Large, gemmy crystals light
up against the bright white Aragonite covered matrix. Most of these crystals are doubly terminated
and the largest measures to 5.5 cm in length! The surfaces are flashy and reflective with a strong
satiny luster and the interiors are so gemmy that you can see natural inclusions deep inside each
crystal. I count eight crystals of the larger size and over a dozen of the smaller accenting crystals.
The specimen is in superb condition for a Sulfur of this size and can be displayed in a variety of ways.
At the shows, I've noticed that the prices of classic Italian Sulfurs have gone through the roof. This
specimen, for what it offers, is priced very reasonably in my opinion and good ones are hard to find.

Denver2013-88WulfeniteMimetiteRowleyMineThebaPaintedRockDistrictPaintedRockMtsMaricopaCoArizona2.jpg (417471 bytes)

Stunning specimen featuring orange Wulfenite with yellowish-orange Mimetite on matrix!
The old
Rowley Mine has produced many specimens of beautiful Wulfenite over the decades, but
this is exceptional for both the size of the gem Wulfenite crystals and for the associated aggregates
of fine Mimetite needles. Mined in the 1970s, this has been in the Valenzuela collection since that time.
The crystals are pristine save only for one tiny bump on the backside edge of the bottom Wulfenite. This is
invisible without strong magnification. The concave nature of the solid matrix protected the fine crystals and
also allows for easy handling. I consider this to be one of the finest Rowley specimens I've ever offered and the
aesthetics and eye appeal are off the charts. It would fit well into a high quality Arizona or Lead mineral collection.

Extraordinarily rare and quite gemmy Phosphophyllite crystal on matrix!
This is a superb specimen featuring a fully terminated, 4 cm crystal of gem Phosphophyllite
sitting atop a horizontal 2.5 cm crystal, also terminated, situated along the bottom edge. Both
are on Siderite-Pyrite matrix! I can't stress just how rare matrix Phosphophyllites are! This
rare mineral was discovered at the Unificada Mine in the late 1950's and due to the extreme
dangers of mining, very few large specimens have come to light in the decades since. A crystal
piece of this caliber ON MATRIX comes to market maybe once or twice a decade so this is
indeed a very rare opportunity. This crystal is not only large, it is also fully twinned with a rich
aqua-green coloration. The multiple crystal faces are glassy, reflecting light like a faceted jewel.

Denver2013-117TourmalinePederneiraMineBrazil64mm.jpg (174700 bytes)

Gemmy crystals of red capped Tourmaline crystals with Quartz!
A superb Tourmaline cluster with gorgeous doubly terminated crystals standing vertically
and laying horizontally. These lustrous crystals are gemmy green and exhibit the most incredible
cranberry-red terminations at every tip. Attached to this aesthetic cluster is a doubly terminated
flat Quartz crystal. It provides the perfect companion for the 6.4 cm vertical Tourmaline to its left.
I should point out that there are no repairs or restoration on the specimen (the same can be said
for the large Pederneira at the top of this page). It's very difficult to find unrepaired Pederneira
Tourmaline specimens and they are usually priced in the five figure range. Absolutely no damage.

From the Pederneira claim, São José da Safira, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Tucson2012-400b.jpg (286598 bytes)

World class quality specimen featuring huge crystals of Acantite on Calcite!
This specimen is easily in the top three of all time finest Acanthites that I have seen from Mexico!
It was formally in the Romero Collection before being gifted to the University of Arizona Mineral
Museum. There are well over a dozen perfect crystals of Acanthite here, most still displaying the
slight hoppering from their days as high temperature Argentite which later cooled to Acanthite but
remained faithful to the original crystal form. The crystals measure to 3 cm in size and are a lustrous
silver-gray except for the middle portion just below the top which is slightly accented with tiny crystals
of Pyrite. The Acanthite formed within a tight seam which forced their outward growth from a narrow
center. The end result is a specimen which takes on the appearance of crystals which are blossoming
into large, distinct terminations - almost like flowers atop a narrower stem! A VERY aesthetic and
might I say unique presentation. I can't recall another specimen looking anything like this one.

From the Fresnillo Mine, Pinos, Mun. de Pinos, Zacatecas, Mexico.
Measures 10 cm by 7.2 cm by 2.8 cm in total size.

Denver2014-221AnglesiteGalenaToussitMorocco76mm.jpg (382547 bytes)

Exceptional specimen of yellow Anglesite crystals with Galena cubes!
This a one heck of an Anglesite specimen! The largest crystal measures 4.5 cm in length and is
actually doubly terminated. There are around a dozen very glassy and quite gemmy Anglesite crystals
here and sitting atop them and towards the back are at least four Galena cubes which is a pretty rare
thing to see. Usually the Galena is in the form of massive matrix, which this specimen has as well, but
cubes are not common at all. The color of these crystals ranges from bright canary-yellow to a more
creamy yellow coloration. The darker areas you see inside some of the crystals is actually the matrix
beneath. The crystals are so clear and gemmy that you can see down to the matrix in some areas.
In excellent condition with only a couple incomplete crystals along the trimming edges.

Gorgeous Mexican classic featuring transparent Calcite crystals with Native Copper!
Fine crystals of colorless scalenohedral Calcite, doubly terminated, in cluster with fine
crystals of Malachite coated Native Copper. These combos came out years ago and
this is one of the more impressive specimens that I've seen. The crystals are in very
good condition with only a could of well hidden cleaves. They are highly lusterous with
some internal inclusions of uncoated Native Copper crystals. Very pleasing and choice.

Stunning crystal of deep rose-red Spinel perched atop hard marble matrix!
The main crystal is a beautifully pristine 2 cm crystal which sits atop the stark white matrix while exhibiting
excellent form. Smaller Spinels are visible beneath the largest crystal, adding a nice contrast. This is one of the
finest Spinel crystals I've seen in a long time and exhibits an well proportioned octahedron with a waxy, wet luster.

Stunning specimen of Native Silver Wires on Acanthite coated Silver!
This specimen is a classic German Silver, dating back to the 1800's! It consists of curling wires
in various lengths and sizes, all rising upwards from a matrix of Silver with Acanthite coating.
The wires are well striated and covered with the most beautiful golden patina you'll ever see.
Exceptional in every respect and one of the most aesthetic Silvers I've ever owned or offered.
I'm excited to now have it back to be able to offer this great specimen again on the website.

Brilliant crystal sprays of Legrandite on Limonite matrix!
There are actually two glassy-lustrous sprays on the dark Limonite matrix, with the largest
vertical cluster at the top measuring 4 cm in length. It is completely translucent and beautifully
terminated along the left matrix edge. The crystal cluster at the bottom measures a little shy of
3 cm in length but becomes very gemmy near the tips. This is one of the largest Legrandite crystal
specimens I've seen in a while and the fact that there are two sprays is pretty amazing. The crystals
are in excellent condition with the only contacts being along the right side and bottom side trim edges.

This is one of the deepest colored Topaz crystals you will ever see from Katlang. The color is a rich
glowing orange and is so vibrant that it can be seen in my case from across the room! The 2 cm crystal
is perfectly terminated and very clean and glassy on all surfaces and very transparent in the interior.

There's no word other than "iconic" to best describe a Silver specimen of this magnitude!
The incredibly thick wires at the base (3 cm and 1.5 cm in width); the graceful and superbly
balanced structure from top to bottom; the intense luster and iridescent patina indicating both
age and originality. I've personally owned and offered some of the finest Silvers in the world
but this one stands tall above all the others. It's also the tallest Freiberg I've ever owned at
a full 17 cm in height! Using that measurement as a scale, you can see just how large this
specimen actually is! It truely is a cabinet sized Silver and depending on your screen image,
is nearly the same size as what you see in the above photograph. Not surprisingly, this
specimen was part of the 2002 DeSautels Trophy winning mineral display in Tucson. At the
base of the specimen, there are dozens of small Acanthite crystals and a brown mineral which
may possibly be Chlorargyrite. A truely spectacular Silver worthy of the finest collection!

Gorgeous plate of Beryl var. Aquamarine crystals with bi-color Fluorite on Muscovite!
This specimen is a sight to see! The large 4.4 cm pink and green Fluorite octahedron is easily
the focal point but the blue Aquamarine crystals provide the perfect surrounding cast. There's
something about these rare combos that always makes them exciting to see. When held under a
display light, the pastel colors of the Fluorite glow, beautifully contrasting with the Aquamarine.
This specimen was originally a much larger plate that I had trimmed down to reduce the excess
Muscovite. The result was a large, beautiful plate with just the right amount of size and balance.

structured and attractive specimen during the show. It was actually pictured in the

very bold and the Tourmaline is wonderfully striated with an intense rolling luster. The 6.5 cm wide
slightly smoky Quartz crystal is terminated as well, with a backdrop consisting of white Albite blades.
All three minerals come together here to form a beautiful small cabinet sized specimen that would
fit in well with the finest of collections. I can't find one negative thing to say about this piece. It's in
excellent condition with only a few tiny bumps that are of no importance. Combos like this are rare.

Denver2013-170QuartzChloriteNepal235mm.jpg (251554 bytes)

Incredible plate of Chlorite included Quartz crystals with Rock Crystal Quartz!
This is an amazing large cabinet plate! It features a plate of vertical Quartz crystals, half of which
display the boldest phantoms of green Chlorite imaginable. As you move towards the left edge of
the plate, the inclusions become less and less until you see pure Rock Crystal Quartz points which
are completely transparent and free of phantoming. If this was the end of the story, this would be
a fantastic display plate. But something else happened towards the end of the growth cycle of the
vertical crystals. Two doubly terminated Quartz crystals, one measuring 4.8 cm and the other a much
larger 10 cm, fell from the pocket ceiling and landed horizontally atop the vertical crystals. Over time
these became cemented in place and the end result is a specimen that is both incredible unique and
visually stunning. This Quartz crystals are all terminated with only a few scattered contacts. I can't
recall seeing a better specimen from this locality and certainly none with the character of this plate.

sharp the natural growth is with well defined, glassy faces. The crystal measures .5 cm in size and

Lustrous and quite rare Native Silver Wire rising up from a matrix vug!
I can tell you right now that I seldom see good matrix wire Silvers from China. This specimen
leaped out when I saw it in Tucson and I had the matrix trimmed even further to more centralize
the wire. The wire itself is pretty big, measuring just shy of 5.5 cm from base to tip! I love the way
it does an "S" curve bend as it pulls away from the Calcite and Acanthite coated vug and rises
upwards, well above the matrix. The wire is very lustrous with a golden patina and very attractive.

HUGE, exceptional crystal of Rutile sitting atop matrix!
One of the finest, most impressive Rutiles I've ever seen, this crystal measures an incredible
8.5 cm by 7.7 cm by 6.4 cm in total size! The surfaces are pristine and the structure is nearly
flawless with superb luster and a good amount of red color slipping though in direct lighting.
This is pretty amazing considering the size and density of the crystal. The provenance of this
specimen dates back to W. F. Ferrier (1865-1950), a world reknown mineral collector who
had access to some of the finest collections of his time. This would tend to date the Rutile
to the late 1890's. The crystal is complete on all sides and sits entirely atop a matrix so
there are no contacts on the bottom side. This is truely a museum-calibre centerpiece!

is quite solid all the way through. In other words, there is no give to the mesh. It sits atop
the Quartz matrix and peeks out in veins all the way down to the bottom. This impressive
specimen was found in July of 2008 by Ed Muceus during a collecting trip at the Ibex #3.

Spectacular specimen of deep blue Shattuckite with a spray of primary Malachite over Quartz!
A tremendous specimen from the find that appeared several years ago. Specimens of this quality
are no longer available in the marketplace. This is an acquistion from a private collection and one of
the finest Shattuckite-Malachite pieces I've seen in a long time. The Shattuckite appears as a deep
blue layer which rolls in and out of vugs and around clusters of small Quartz crystals. Its intense
color and silky sparkle capture the eye but it's the sculptural form that really sets the piece apart
from others. Just left of center is a wonderfully chatoyant spray of primary Malachite which sprays
its fibrous termination downward towards the bottom. At the top of the Malachite are a series of
glassy horizontal faces indicating a termination against smooth matrix. The deep evergreen color
set against vibrant blue has got to be one of the most beautiful combinations in the mineral world.
This specimen is very well trimmed and in excellent condition with barely a scuff anywhere.

Unique specimen of Native Silver wires in Calcitic matrix from Kongsberg!

Absolutely breathtaking specimen of Beryl var. Emerald crystals set atop Calcite crystals!
This is one of the FINEST Emerald specimens I've seen in the past decade. It may actually be the
finest in terms of overall aesthetics and presentation. There are three gemmy Emeralds atop the
pearly-lustrous Calcite cryststals, with the two smaller crystals laying horizontally atop the Calcite.
The third and largest crystal, measuring over 2 cm above the Calcite and even larger as it extends
downward, sits vertically above the others and boasts a perfect termination. The other two Emeralds
are also terminated with the crystal in the foreground displaying some slight matrix influence. The
color of the Emeralds could best be described as medium with a strong internal brilliance and glassy,
lustrous faces. The color is typical of larger Emeralds from Muzo but the arrangement of the gemmy
crystals atop the well protected Calcites is anything but typical. It is exceptional in every way possible.

MUSEUM CALIBRE!! A spectacular display of gemmy brown Smoky Quartz crystals on Schistic matrix!
This specimen is from the Polar Urals and it is the finest example from that very cold region of Russia
that I've ever seen! It is large cabinet in size and incredibly impressive with its large Smoky Quartz
crystals, all super gemmy and terminated, pointing outwards from the center in all directions. I can't
recall seeing a larger specimen from this region and I rarely see Polar Ural specimens on the market
to begin with. The color of these crystals is completely natural and the specimen literally glows a deep
amber-brown when exposed to a direct light. Polar Ural Smoky Quartz is highly prized for the intensity of
its color and is frequently used as gemstones in jewelry. The color is richer than the heat treated stones
which are commonplace today. I would go as far as to say that the color rivals the beauty of Smokys from
Switzerland and that is saying a lot. Specimens from the Polar Urals are much scarcer however and large
plates like this are almost impossible to find. This specimen is truly a unique opportunity for all collectors.

area of what appears to be small Barite blades and gemmy yellow Charlesite crystals. This
has not been confirmed as of yet however. Guadefroyite is a rare mineral to begin with but
Guadefroytite crystals on a matrix of this size is extremely rare. This is the finest I've seen in

Denver2014-155SilverHimmelsfurstFreibergSaxonyGermany.jpg (138927 bytes)

Exceptional and dramatic specimen of Native Wire Silver with Acanthite!
This is the finest Freiberg Silver specimen that I've been able to find and acquire in a long time
and it compares very favorably with the incredible specimens I sold during the Superior Galleries
Auction some years back. This beautifully patinaed specimen begins at the base with a huge 3 cm
thick wire which is accented by Acanthite and smaller wires along the bottom side and edge.  This
thick wire rises upwards and branches outwards arborescently, displaying numerous wires of all
shapes and sizes, stretching away from the center "truck" in all directions and curling their way
towards the top. Together they form a specimen that is both dramatic and visually aesthetic. The
total height of the specimen from base to top is nearly 12 cm! This is a superb cabinet centerpiece
and one that can hold its own sizewise as it sits atop its acrylic display base. The wires are very
lustrous and well striated with a lovely golden-brown patina inside the recesses. If you've been
looking for a major German Silver for your collection, this is it. I don't know when I'll find another.

Incredibly sharp, freestanding crystal blades of Covellite on matrix!
A superb specimen from Colorado displaying some of the finest Covellite blades you will ever
see! The color ranges from reddish to purple and there is a good hint of iridescence thoughout.
I can't find a single negative thing to say about this fine specimen. Only some trivals contacts
here and there but they are easily lost among the incredibly sharp blades. Some minor Pyrite.

Tucson2014-280b.jpg (403080 bytes)

Very rare specimen of crystalline Native Silver with Cuprian Adamite from Tsumeb!
This is the only crystalline Native Silver I've ever seen from the Tsumeb Mine. It is extremely
rare. The specimen is actually a concave structured leaf that sits atop a matrix of what appears
to be Cuprite or reddish Hematite or both. It is completely crystalline from top to bottom and
there must be at least a hundred triangular and octahedral Silver crystals forming the entirety
of the Native Silver leaf. Crystals even stick out at the edges. Atop the Silver crystals are small
sprays of Cuprian Adamite with a larger spray near the bottom. A true classic from a classic mine.

Tremendous specimen featuring Watermelon Tourmalines atop Quartz crystals, Lepidolite,
and Cleavelandite! All the Tourmaline crystals are terminated, displaying both the pyramidal
and flat top terminations. The largest Tourmaline measures 14.5 cm in length and angles upwards
towards 11 o'clock, where it terminates pyramidally atop the largest upright Quartz crystal.
By the way, this Quartz point also just happens to be doubly terminated as it serves as the
center support structure for the entire specimen. Other bi-color Tourmalines are scattered
about with purple Lepidolite, glassy Cleavelandite, and yellow Mica crystals providing
additional color and contrast. This is a specimen that is both large cabinet in size and
museum calibre in quality. It's easily worthy of the finest Tourmaline mineral collections.

Brilliant, naturally faceted Golden Yellow Diamond on Kimberlite matrix!
I haven't seen a good Diamond crystal on matrix in years and this is the first yellow Diamond I've seen
since the early 2000's. This specimen appeared at the show from an older collection and I grabbed it
immediately. The crystal growth is stunning and appears faceted. The amount of light that enters the
crystal and then lights up the interior reminds one of a cut Diamond. The crystal is firmly attached to the
Kimberlite matrix and measures .8 cm in size. If I had to estimate, I'd say the stone is close to 1 carat.

Tucson2012-263FluoriteAlbiteSmokyDreamtimeClaimTellerCountyColorado.jpg (264579 bytes)

Incredible large cabinet specimen of multi-colored Fluorite cubes on Albite with Smoky Quartz!
These Fluorites cubes are amazing! Under direct lighting, they exhibit a mix of colors one wouldn't
expect to see in a Colorado Fluorite. Blues, greens, yellows, and violet pop out in the photograph
and highlight the interior of both large cubes. I can't remember seeing another Colorado specimen
that displayed the same colors range. The Fluorites are also quite large, each measuring around
7 cm in size. They're complete on all faces with some rehealing on the backside against the matrix.
This is the second time I've been able to offer this fine specimen and I'm very happy to give another
collector a chance. Fluorite specimens of this quality from Colorado come along once every few years!

Incredible specimen of Native Silver dendrites with Acanthite crystals on Calcite!
This is simply the finest Batopilas specimen I've ever seen or offered - no doubt about it! The large "feather"
on the right side measures over 7 cm in height and is totally pristine with an aesthetic presentation rarely
seen in a Batopilas Silver. Every spoke and dendrite is complete and most are accenting by small dark
gray Acanthite crystals! Behind the large dendritic feather is a matrix of host rock and Calcite, giving the
specimen a stability and strength not usually seen in Batopilas specimens which often tend to be flimsy.
This is another aspect of the specimen that I find to be very desirable.

Gorgeous plate of thick tabular orange Wulfenite on Descloizite coated Calcite matrix!
What a beautiful specimen! The plate is virtually pristine with no damage and lustrous
Wulfenite crystals of various shapes and sizes. The crystals sit atop a natural surface of
green Descloizite over Calcite which I feel makes for a wonderful color combination. Many
of these have the Descloizite removed to expose the white Calcite but I like this method
of display better. There's one area near the top where a single crystal was removed that
want to make mention of. I didn't even notice it at first because it's so well done and it
could be trimmed away if so desired. I consider it to be of little importance to the specimen.
It's easier to see in the above photograph and much less noticeable in person. Wulfenite
specimens of this size with pristine crystals and no scuffs are virtually impossible to find!

Exceptional specimen of Native Silver wires on Calcite matrix!
This stunning specimen rates as one of the finest Pervian Wire Silvers I have ever seen or offered!
Not only is it extraordinarily well balanced, but it is incredibly artistic with at least two S curves,
one of the most graceful formations found in both art and nature! The wires vary in thickness from
.5 cm to 1.5 cm and are very stable atop the white matrix. They are beautifully striated with a lovely
golden patina throughout. I could see this specimen and the Batopilas specimen above being placed
into the same collection, creating a Native Silver display of competition level. Both Silvers are well
matched sizewise and offer two distinct forms of Native Silver in a quality that I rarely encounter.

EXCEPTIONAL PLATE OF CLASSIC RHODOCHROSITE!
The above specimen is a Climax Mine Rhodochrosite on Quartz point matrix!

Anyone who knows Rhodos knows just how incredibly difficult it is to find a good Climax
Rhodochrosite. Occasionally I see incomplete rhombs without matrix or even rarer - a partial or
coated rhomb on matrix. But the holy grail for Rhodo collectors is a good sized plate of Quartz
crystals with large, complete, deeply colored (and uncoated) rhombs and it took me over twelve
years to find a specimen that met every one of those qualities. Quite frankly, I haven't seen
or owned a better specimen from the Climax Mine! This specimen is so good that it could
be confused for a Sweet Home or even Pasto Bueno Rhodo but it is 100% Climax which
makes it so much rarer and all the more special. It's also in excellent condition with only
a scattering of incomplete Quartz points to speak of and they definately don't detract!
Atop some of the points is a slight coating of Calcite which leads to the gorgeous rhombs
of Rhodochrosite which are complete and glow a translucent cherry-red. They measure
4.6 cm, 2.6 cm, and several of 1 cm in size! I count at least a dozen rhombs of various sizes!

most aesthetic, miniature sized Kongsberg Silver specimen that I've ever owned - twice!

Gorgeous Blue Cap Tourmaline on Golden Quartz!
A stunning example of the classic Blue Cap Tourmalines from California!
When you add in the fact that unlike many other Blue Caps, this specimen has never been
repaired or restored, the rarity and desirability increases by a factor of ten! The Tourmaline
itself is quite large, measuring just over 5 cm wide across the top and 9.5 cm in total length.
The top termination is complete and in good shape with only a few tiny contacts near the
rim. The blue coloration is vivid and deep, sinking 1 cm down until it changes over to a
hot-pink and then finally a deep red. The backside of the Tourmaline is incomplete where
it was removed from the host rock and this is pretty much the norm. The large Quartz
crystal is terminated and displays a rich yellowish-orange color with internal patches
of milky-white. I call it a Golden Quartz but one might almost consider it to be Citrine.
Blue caps of this caliber rarely appear on the market. I can highly recommend this one.

Tucson2014-44MalachiteKasompiMineDRCongo22cm.jpg (378695 bytes)

Incredible large cabinet sized specimen featuring Malachite Stalactites on Malachite!
This is an amazing centerpiece! I call it the "Shark" because the natural stalactites of green
Malachite extending from top to bottom resemble a mouth with sharp teeth. The stalactites
are all complete and undamaged and nearly bridge the wide gap between the two layers of
chatoyant Malachite. At some time in the past, this was an open vug in the matrix pocket or
seam in which a secondary growth of Malachite tried to fill, forming the impressive stalactites.
I rarely see two sided Malachite stalactites plates of this size so this was a pretty good find.

Extremely rare specimen featuring crystals of Native Gold on matrix from Chile!
This amazing miniature sized specimen has some of the finest Native Gold crystals you will ever

even find a photo of a good crystalline Gold from Chile on mindat.org so they are anything but
common. This specimen features half a dozen sharp and incredibly lustrous Gold crystals ranging
from .8 cm to 1 cm in size. They sit atop a porous matrix which is remarkably heavy for it's size.
I feel this specimen represents a very rare opportunity for crystalline Gold collectors!

Denver2012-16TourmalinePederneiraMineBrazil8cm.jpg (194874 bytes)

Gorgeous arrangement of bi-color Tourmaline crystals with Lepidolite on white Cleavelandite!
The bottom of the Tourmalines could be considered "watermelon" because the outer green surrounds a
plum red interior. There are four distinct terminations here and even the somewhat flatterned Tourmaline
crystals to the right are terminated at top. The Lepidolite along the edges is more purple than red although
the camera accentuated the red hue. The Tourmaline interior is definately more red and this can be seen at
the bottom where the crystals were separated from the host rock. All the vibrant Tourmaline surfaces are
very flashy and lustrous, rolling light up and down the striations that extend the entire length of the crystals.
The largest of the Tourmalines measures just shy of 8 cm in height. The main crystal has a repair as all
Pederneiras are repaired due to the nature of the pocket find. It was professionally done and is unnoticeable.
The specimen is definately one of the best looking small cabinet sized specimens I've ever seen or offered.

Tucson2013-4SylvaniteColorado75mm.jpg (253382 bytes)

Museum specimen of Sylvanite on Limonite colored micro-Quartz covered matrix!
This is a true museum piece and it is easily the finest Cripple Creek Sylvanite I've ever seen or
offered. The flashy-lustrous crystal sprays of Sylvanite stand out better than any other I've seen
because they are set against a brownish surface of micro-Quartz crystals. Rarely is this the case
and the result is an incredibly sharp and vivid visual display. It's also the richest ore I've seen from
Cripple Creek and all evidence supports the fact that this specimen was once in the personal collection
of W. S. Stratton, one of the founders of Cripple Creek and its first mining millionaire. He was the owner
of the Independence Mine which was an incredibly rich find. He used his millions to help improve the city
of Colorado Springs and actually donated the land for the courthouse which eventually became the Pioneer
Museum. One of the items in Stratton's collection was an incredibly rich piece of Sylvanite that he used
as a paperweight. His collection was given to the museum upon his death and this specimen is the only one
that corresponds to that description. Until just recently, the specimen remained in the Pioneer Museum
for decades. A specimen of this calibre and historical significance is a rare opportunity for all collectors.
The backside of the specimen is covered with tiny micro-Fluorite crystals which is typical for the locale.

MUSEUM QUALITY specimen featuring large Sphalerite crystals with Amethyst Quartz points!
This is a large cabinet specimen from the bygone days of Silver mining in Creede, Colorado and it's
the finest Creede specimen of these two minerals that I've ever come across. I was thrilled to find it
last February at the Tucson show. The specimen is pictured above from both the front and back sides
and it really is a display piece that could be shown from either side. The side which I consider to be the
front features huge, isolated crystals of Sphalerite measuring to 3.8 cm. These form a ridge atop a matrix
completely covered by bright purple Amethyst. The back side of the specimen has a slightly different look
in that it is nearly all Sphalerite crystals with Amethyst accenting atop and between the crystal faces. The
Sphalerite from Creede usually leans green and this can seen near the tips of the crystals where hints of
yellowish-green are noticeable. This specimen is even more impressive in person and would make a major
additional to any Colorado mineral collection. It's in excellent condition with very little in the way of contacts.

up with a color that glows from end to end when given a direct light source. The termination is textbook
perfect and there are no contacts along its length. It sits alongside several frosted Smoky Quartz crystals
and atop a cluster of white Albite crystals. This is one of the finest Triphanes I've seen in year. A true gem!

This was the largest and most impressive of the group in my opinion and it is a combination that is so rare that
I can't recall seeing another like this from Halls Harbour. The Zeolite crystals sit atop a surface of frosted
Amethyst crystals inside a matrix vug that is bordered by a deeper purple Amethyst crystal rind. The crystals

Very rare and unique specimen featuring lustrous crystals of Wulfenite on Mottramite stalactites!
This is an amazing combo specimen and I was told that it may possibly be the only of its kind and
I can attest to the fact that I've never seen another like it. The Mottramite stalactites are mostly
hollow as the reverse photograph displays. They are olive green with golden undertones and a
satiny surface. The Wulfenite crystals are blocky with a strong glassy luster. The crystals range
from .5 cm to 1.5 cm in size with the largest crystals perched atop the stalactites tips. This is one
of the few specimens that once it's gone, you may never seen offered again. Definately a rare

Rare and aesthetic specimen of Native Silver wires emerging from Calcite matrix!
This is a prized locality for Silver collectors and one that is now under water and inaccessible.
The mine itself was actually located on an islet in Lake Superior and as one would expect,
eventually the water came in and flooded the shaft. Authetic Silvers from the Silver Islet
Mine date back to as early as 1868 when ore was first discovered by Thomas MacFarlane
to as late as 1884 when the mine was finally closed after yielding over $3 million in Silver. The
above specimen displays a beautiful antique patina, which is indicative of its age, over strong luster.

Incredibly rare specimen of Native Gold set alongside and rising atop Pink Feldspar!
This is one impressive specimen from the now closed Nugget Pond Mine! The pink granitic Quartz
and Feldspar matrix clues the locality since it is the only mine I know of that features this beautiful
and unique combination. The Gold itself appears as thick "leafy" growths which pull together at the
top to form an even more solid and massive cluster. The surfaces are extremely lustrous and the
color is a bright yellow indicating Silver content. The Gold sits atop the milky-white Quartz seam
from where it emerged and drapes down over the pink Feldspar, creating the most beautiful color
combination you'll ever see in a Gold specimen. I must point out that specimens of this magnitude
from the Nugget Pond Mine are extremely rare and I've seen less than half a dozen in the past

I fell in love with this Kongsberg Silver the moment I saw it! Thick, lustrous, ropey wires rise up
from a white Calcite accented base, curling their way up to various heights. The center wire and
tallest of the group completes its growth in a twirly, tornado-like tip, full of striations and artistry.
This is one of those specimens that I could look at for hours and is easily one of the finest Silver
miniatures from this classic locality that I have ever owned! I saw no better miniature at the show.
I think one would be hard pressed to find a more attractive example that isn't of the tree form.
Circa 1850's - From Kongsberg Silver Mining District, Kongsberg, Buskerud, Norway.

Beautiful two-sided specimen of Azurite and Chalcoalumite!
This amazing specimen is pure Azurite on one side, with sparkling Azurite balls from top to bottom!
If this were the only displayable side, the specimen would be a top rate Bisbee Azurite all by itself.
However, this specimen has a back side which offers a wonderful display of light blue Chalcoalumite
atop the darker blue Azurite! Take your choice of what side you'd like to display or better yet, place
the specimen on a rotating stand and enjoy both. Both sides are in great condition with minimal contacts.

Gorgeous rhombs of Rhodochrosite with lavender Fluorite, Tetrahedrite, and Quartz!
This specimen has a little of everything for the Rhodochrosite collector. The gemmy, red rhombs
are beautifully positioned atop the host matrix and perfectly accenting by modified cubes of lavender
Fluorite. Most of the Fluorite crystals are partially coated with a white mineral adding additional color
contrast. Small needles of Quartz surround the Rhodochrosite rhombs, along with Tetrahedrite crystals.

VERY RARE!! Historic specimen featuring Acanthite crystals on Erythrite (Cobalt bloom) covered matrix!
Specimens of this combination from Cobalt are so rare that you'd be lucky to see one in a decade. This is the first I've offered
in the history of this website (15 years) and I've seen no others, not even during my visit to Cobalt several years ago. Simply
put, not many large Acanthite specimens with their original Erythrite coating survive from the Cobalt Mining Disrict. Most
were cleaned or had their Erythrite bloom removed and that is a shame because it's such a large part of the region's history.
Erythrite, being a Cobalt mineral, is also the reason behind the town's name. This large plate has been preserved since it
was mined in the early 1900's and the Acanthite crystals are lustrous, measuring to 1.5 cm in size. They are well scattered
atop the red surfaces. This specimen is a rare opportunity to acquire an original specimen from a great Silver mining district.

Exceptional specimen featuring a large Diamond set in Kimberlite matrix!
This ranks as the largest, most impressive Diamond in matrix that I've ever offered! The Diamond
crystal is estimated at nearly 4 carats and rated as VS2 with a color clarity of J. In other words, the
inclusions are few and the Diamond is near colorless, making it a very high quality stone. It is firmly
attached to the Kimberlite matrix which also shows signs of a possible second Diamond alongside some
patches of greenish Olivine which is not common in Kimberlite. There are also a couple of dark reddish
brown crystals that could be small Pyrope Garnets. The Mir Pipe closed in 2004 and specimens are now
very rare. Specimen like this one with a full 1 cm sized Diamond are virtually impossible to find anywhere!

Super gemmy and quite large Hessonite Garnet!
Actually, this is a cluster of gemmy Garnets but I was referring to the nearly 2 crystal at the very top.
The interiors are transparent with an intense orange coloration and the surfaces are glassy and striated. Only a
few trivial contracts keep this fine cluster from being pristine. The display light dances off of each crystal face.

at the top terminations. The crystals are both doubly terminated with a slightly lighter green color at the
bottom termination.
They measure

Incredible combination of dazzling green Dioptase with Willemite on orange Wulfenite blades!
These specimens from Tiger, Arizona are highly prized and it's easy to see why! The color of
the Dioptase crystal clusters on the bright orange Wulfenites is stunning and one of the prettiest
mineral combinations I've ever seen. The Wulfenite blades are in very good condition with only
some minor edge chipping. The largest blade measures 2 cm in width and while the front sides
are accented by emerald-green Dioptase, the back sides are covered by pale blue Willemite
clusters! The Mammoth-Saint Anthony Mine lasted nearly 80 years, finally closing in 1953.

MAJOR KONGSBERG SILVER!!
What a super aesthetic combination of Native Wire Silver growing atop Calcite crystals
with Acanthite! I can't remember the last time I've seen such an attractive example from
Kongsberg. At the base, you'll find two absolutely perfect rhombs of white Calcite with sharp
crystals of gray Acanthite to the left. Situated in the middle is the "trunk" of the Silver tree
which starts at a thickness of about 1 cm and winds it way upwards, branches and all, to a
height of nearly 10 cm! I describe the specimen as a tree because that's exactly what it
looks like to me! An old gnarly tree with two white boulders at the base of the trunk.
This specimen dates back to the 1800's and has a very impressive provenance. It also
hosts a perfect ring of wire Silver which moves freely up and down the main wire. The
ring is visible above at about 3 o'clock and is the trademark of this famous specimen.

Brilliant specimen of gemmy yellow Brazilianite crystals perched atop Microcline!
This is one stunning specimen to say the least. The aesthetics are superb and I was struck at
first glance by the way the gem Brazilianite crystals climbed the left side of the matrix and draped
over the top. Seriously, I couldn't take my eyes off the piece! The crystals are all in excellent
shape with full terminations except for one crystal on the back side which is rehealed.

Exceptional Triple Tanzanite with matrix!
This specimen is pure WOW!! Three pristine crystals with perfect terminations emerging
above matrix! Add in the fact that the cluster is also 100% unheated and natural and you
have the sort of specimen that drives mineral collectors wild with excitement. I must admit,
I was pretty excited when I saw this specimen in Tucson, and grabbed it on the spot. I see
a really good matrix Tanzanite for sale so rarely that I usually don't even look for them.
To find a triple crystal specimen with matrix that is natural and fully trichroic is almost
unheard of and this piece came from the Tanzanite Experience Museum Collection in
Tanzania. The faces of the gemmy transparent crystals are all glassy and reflective.
As the above photos illustrate, the front side displays the crystal tops above the matrix
while the backside is nearly matrix free and displays the actual length of each crystal.
From the front, the crystals display a blue coloration and from the side this changes to
a vivid purple. Brown zoning (a sign of unheated crystals) can be seen in the widest
of the Tanzanites and all emit an intense reddish color when exposed to direct light.

Tucson2014-276WulfeniteToussitMorocco16cm.jpg (472166 bytes)

Exceptional plate of yellow Wulfenite blades on matrix!
This is the finest example of Wulfenite I've seen from Morocco in a long time and it was by far the
best specimen of Moroccan Wulfenite at the show this year. Dozens and dozens of yellow Wulfenite
blades, with just a touch of orange, are scattered in a mostly isolated display atop the matrix. The
specimen is in excellent shape as well. There are the usual incomplete crystals here and there which
is typical of Wulfenite, but very few for a specimen of this size. I love the overall display of the piece
as well, with the smaller crystals in the foreground standing upright, and the larger crystals filling the
recess in the background and climbing up and over the matrix which rises like a mountain range along
the back edge. Many of the larger blades measure 2 to 3 cm in size with one huge blade being as large
as 4 cm in width! This is a remarkable specimen which displays beautifully without the need of a stand.

Incredibly flashy specimen of orange Wulfenite tabs with Cuproadamite!
This is pure eye candy in terms of a Wulfenite miniature. The crystals are some of the most

dozen of these beautiful tabs, measuring to 1 cm in size, and I don't detect any damage to speak of.

Gemmy green octahedrons of Fluorite in cluster with Quartz crystals and drusy accenting!
An incredible cabinet plate that is stunning to look at. The green Fluorite is an intense, deep green,
almost along the lines of an emerald-green. The crystals are very glassy and lustrous and all are
octahedral in habit. The largest along the upper left edge measures nearly 5 cm in size! In excellent
condition with barely a contact. A sparkling, sugary drusy of Quartz and crystals frames the piece.

VERY RARE large cabinet plate of Quartz var. Amethyst!
This is a classic English locality Amethyst and one of the finest I've seen in many years and easily
the largest I've ever offered. It's from the Wheal Jane which was an old tin and copper mine in the
late 1700's through mid 1900's. The mine is now closed and flooded. This large cab plate is nearly
flawless with barely a contact. The color is a lovely pastel purple, a color I rarely see in Amethyst
specimens, and the crystals are quite lustrous. A secondary growth of smaller gemmy Amethyst
crystals accents the larger crystals, creating a specimen that is both aesthetic and stunning.

The photo above speaks for itself - this specimen is gorgeous!! The Danburite crystals are
glassy and gemmy with a glowing pink coloration. All the terminations are complete and there

surface is smooth as glass while the modifications and left edge are slightly matted. Holding
the specimen up to eye level, I can attest to the fact that one could easily watch television

Incredible specimen of Blue Fluorite with a mirror-like Galena cube sitting atop Quartz matrix!
This is one of the finest Blanchard Mine specimens I've seen. The 4+ cm Galena cube is bright and lustrous
and sits beautifully atop the matrix, surrounded by sky-blue Fluorite crystals. They don't get much more
aesthetic than this! The Fluorite surfaces have a satiny luster and there is very little in the way of contacts.

breathtaking deep blue in natural sunlight. The camera flash caught the gorgeous blue in the above photos.

Appearing at the 2009 Houston Show - Celestite crystals with Sulfur inclusions!
I purchased a small collection of the these incredible specimens at the show. The crystals
on this specimen are perched atop matrix and shoot out in all directions with glassy tips
which are fully terminated. The yellowish Sulfur inclusions are also quite visible just
beneath the surface. The story behind this find - These specimens were collected in

Gemmy Beryl var. Heliodor (Yellowish-Green Beryl) on Quartz matrix!
Definately the finest Massachusetts Beryl I've seen in many years! This glassy crystal
is doubly terminated and measures 4 cm in length by 1.7 cm in width! I'm calling it a
Heliodor although it does tilt towards the greener side of the Heliodor scale. The matrix
is a grainy Quartz which provides the perfect contrast to the Beryl in both color and
surface texture. The provenance with this specimen dates back to 1949 but it's possible
that the specimen is even older. Beryls of this quality from the east coast are very rare.

of Magnesite are large, measuring 4.7 cm in the center and 3 cm - 3.7 cm on the periphery. Smaller
clear Calcites climb between the Magnesite rhombs. A slight dusting of red Hematite accents the
backside corners of the Magnesites while the Hematite blades add a dark mirror-shiny contrast.

Gemmy crystals of PHOSPHOPHYLLITE on Siderite coated matrix!!
The aesthetics are tremendous and the crystals very glassy and gemmy. The largest crystal
on the right is doubly terminated and measures nearly 4 cm from tip to tip!! The other three
crystals on the left measure 1.8 cm, 1.7 cm, and 1.4 cm respectively. They are also glassy and
gemmy and each crystal displays that classic twinning that Phosphophyllite is famous for!
There is no damage on the plate - only some restepping on the top termination of the largest
crystal. This is completely natural and displays a healing pattern of regrowth. This mineral is
truly the "holy grail" of mineral collecting and is incredibly rare in the size and quality.

Incredibly beautiful and heavy specimen of Native Gold on bright white Quartz!
The 16 to 1 Mine is world famous for its bright yellow gold in stark white Quartz and this is why
specimens from there are widely used for jewelry. This is a whopper of a Gold specimen, weighing
right at 19 ounces, with a stunning display that is guaranteed to impress! While the melt value of
just the Gold itself is well over $30,000, this specimen is worth much more as a display piece. It's the
largest 16 to 1 specimen I saw in Denver. It was easily the most aesthetic with the brilliant Native Gold
rising up from the bright white Quartz matrix - which by the way, is loaded with additional seams of Gold.
I saw another specimen of 16 to 1 that was just a bit smaller but it was almost completely void of the white
Quartz that gives specimens from this locality their beautiful contrast. In my opinion, this was the easily
the finest piece from the show and would make a wonderful addition to the finest mineral collections.

Unusual combo featuring a large, doubly terminated Barite with Sulfur crystals on drusy coated matrix!
This specimen caught my eye in Tucson at first glance. I've seen Barite specimens and Sulfur specimens
and even Barite with Sulfur specimens from Poland. This is the first Barite with Sulfur of this variety I've
come across. The Barite is very gemmy and pristine with two perfect terminations. It exhibits phantoming
and measures nearly 6 cm in length! A smaller Barite can be seen beneath the large crystal on the back side.
The Native Sulfur crystals are small but their number makes up for the lack of size and they completely cover
the sparkling drusy covered matrix. An excellent cabinet sized specimen that would make a great centerpiece.

Tremendous specimen of Arsenopyrite crystals stacked high atop Quartz points!
To be honest with you, Arsenopyrite is not a mineral that I get very excited about and I don't feature
very many of them with the headline of "stunning". This fine specimen is the exception to the rule
and it deserves every accolade I can throw its way. I can't remember every Arsenopyrite I've seen
over the years but I can say this is the finest I can ever remember seeing and it's easily the finest
example to ever be offered on the website. The specimen is virtually flawless, with an impressive
cluster of stacked Arsenopyrite crystals rising some 5 cm above the clear Quartz points below. The
surfaces are pristine with an intense luster covering each and every face and termination. The crystals
measure to 3.5 cm in size and smaller Arsenopyrites can be seen along the left side of the specimen.
A specimen of this quality is extremely rare and would make a fine addition to a world class collection.

crystal is very glassy and pristine, measuring 6 cm in size. The smaller Morganite in the back
terminated against matrix and is actually complete but with a frosted backside. To the
right is a small bluish-green gem Tourmaline crystal. Overall, a very impressive specimen with

HUGE, glassy crystal of Golden Topaz!
Without a doubt, this is the largest Golden Topaz I've offered in years! The crystal color
is a vibrant golden-champagne and the interior is very glassy and gemmy with the ability
to intensify and reflect lighting. It's probably the internal growth patterning that does this.
The crystal is pristine and textbook at the top termination and cleaved off the matrix at the
bottom side which is normal for a Topaz of this size. Except for a small area along the very
bottom on the right side where there is rehealing (at the cleave line), the crystal is completely
undamaged, unrepaired and unrestored. A gorgeous crystal that would make a great centerpiece!

Completely crystalline specimen of Native Gold on Quartz!
This entire specimen is composed of very distinct Native Gold crystals and Spinel-twins. I've seen many
Round Mountain Gold specimens with crystals, but this is one of the finest miniatures I've ever come across.
This is actually the second time I've had the pleasure of offering this very fine specimen because I sold it
to a major collector several years ago. I'm thrilled to have it back again to offer others a second chance!

Unusual and striking combo of golden Pyrite on purple Fluorite cubes with Calcite!
I've never seen another Illinois Fluorite like this! Bright, golden crystals of Pyrite coat nearly
every Fluorite crystal face, creating the most beautiful of color combinations. The large cubes
average around 4 cm in size and sit in a cluster atop matrix with a 6 cm Calcite crystal (far right).
The Fluorite is a dark purple color and tends to glow at the corners when placed under lighting.
I think any other color of Fluorite wouldn't present the same quality of visual impact.

Incredibly beautiful specimen of pink Elbaite with Muscovite on Albite!
One of the most attractive miniatures in Tucson in my opinion. The pink spray
in the center measures nearly 4 cm tall and is surrounded by smaller, gemmy pink
Tourmalines. All are terminated with flat top terminations except for one little jewel
with has a pyramidal tip. Running between the Tourmaline crystals is a golden-yellow
blade of Muscovite which actually bends as it passes between the crystals. This makes
for a really nice backing for the largest crystal cluster. All sit atop a white Albite matrix.

Measures 6 cm by 4.2 cm by 3.4 cm in size.

Orange Wulfenite crystals with Green Mimetite!
Without a doubt, this is the best of this combination I've seen anywhere! It's also the largest. This
specimen is actually from the older find and displays a better overall color than the newer material
which has come onto the market in the last year or two. It is nearly flawless with virtually no damage
to the Wulfenites (an amazing feat considering the size of the specimen) and a color that is so vibrant
and eye catching that it will turn heads when placed into a display case. On top of that, the Wulfenite
crystals are glassy and lustrous and sit aesthetically between accenting patches of Green Mimetite.
This is truely a MAJOR specimen and one that is worthy of the finest mineral collections.

Museum quality specimen of crystalline Native Gold wires on Calcite with Pyrite!
Without a doubt, this is one of the finest Gold specimens I have ever seen! When one sees this specimen,
you are immediately struck by the superb aesthetics and perfect overall balance. The bright yellow Gold
wires emerge from the pearly-white Calcite seam at the top and extend all the way to the bottom. On the
far right side of the matrix, there's a single Pyrite cube that adds the perfect finishing touch to this
remarkable specimen. This piece, placed in a display case, will be the center of attention every time!

MUSEUM QUALITY AND EXCEPTIONAL Native Copper!
This is the finest and quite possibly the largest specimen of Native Copper I've ever offered on the
website. It is also without a doubt the finest Native Copper I've seen in years and nothing at the show
even came close to this incredible large cabinet sized specimen. The crystals are large with the largest
in the close up photo measuring 7 cm in size! The crystallization is fantastic with sharp, brilliant Copper
crystals forming the entire specimen from top to bottom! The color is gorgeous as most of the crystals are
covered with a lovely reddish-brown antique and ORIGINAL patina. This is accented by patches of bright
red Cuprite and green Malachite as well as a scattering of white Quartz! Beneath the patina is a satiny
smooth luster which rolls across the surface of every crystal. This specimen dates back to the early mining
days of Michigan and is circa 1860-1890. Over the decades since, it has been beautifully preserved and was
once part of the mineral display at the Harvard University Museum. It is absolutely pristine and undamaged.

From the Central Mine, Central, Keweenaw County, Michigan.

Tucson2013-110PreciousOpalAustralia.jpg (282846 bytes)

Dazzling and exceptional specimen of Precious Opal in Ironstone matrix!
This specimen must be seen in person to be believed! The brilliance of the color flash is unbelievable
and one of the most INTENSE I've seen in a boulder matrix piece. I believe the seam is actually a
split because it appears to be naturally polished. The seam is divided into two varieties of color play
with the bottom portion exhibiting large, bold flashes of blue, green, and purple. The top portion of
the seam exhibits an intense pinfire consisting of greens, yellows, blues, reds and purples! When
rotated beneath a light, this specimen offers one of the most incredible displays of color you'll ever
see. The gemstones that could be cut from this seam would be remarkable but I prefer the piece as
is however. In the photo above, one can see the Opal surface reflecting light in a serious of vertical
curved lines. This represents the natural split polishing because this Opal has not been hand polished.

From Quilpie, Quilpie Shire, Queensland, Australia.
Measures 4.6 cm by 8 cm by 3.2 cm in total size with a 1.4 cm by 7 cm Opal seam.

Denver2009-262CalciteSphaleriteNaicaMineMexico.jpg (155069 bytes)

Aesthetic specimen featuring a large Manganoan Calcite sitting next to a Sphalerite crystal!
What a great looking specimen - And from a classic locality too! This specimen is actually from Naica and
is circa 1960's. It's the only Manganoan Calcite specimen I've owned from this locality so I must assume
that most examples are locked away in private collections. Occasionally they pop up in small miniature
size and smaller but this is a full cabinet sized specimen. The Calcite rhomb at top actually measures
6 cm in width! It sits next to a perfect, glassy crystal of Sphalerite which is sizeable itself at 3 cm!
Both sit atop a matrix covered by smaller Manganoan Calcite crystals. A very rare opportunity indeed!

Gorgeous specimen featuring deep blue cubes of Fluorite with purple Fluorite accents on Quartz cast!
This spectacular specimen features cubes of the deepest blue with distinct phantoming beneath the
surfaces. The color is breathtaking and changes from darker blue to sky blue according to the light
source. The crystals are in excellent condition, measuring to nearly 3 cm in size across the corners.
The surfaces are glassy and reflective, allowing for easy viewing through the gemmy interiors. In
addition to the blue Fluorite, there is an accenting of smaller Fluorite crystals with specks of purple.
Combined with the sculptural appearance of the cast-like Quartz matrix, the visual impact is stunning.

Large cabinet plate of super gemmy, vibrant orange Hessonite Garnets on matrix!

This is by far the finest large cabinet plate of Jeffrey Quarry Garnet that I've ever seen or offered
on the website! The flash and sparkle of the surfaces will dazzle even the fussiest of collectors.
There are many crystals as large as 1.5 cm and hundreds in various smaller sizes covering the
grayish Mica and white Calcite coated matrix. The Garnets themselves are incredibly gemmy
and transparent with the deepest color you will ever see in a Hessonite specimen. The crystal
faces are so well defined that each crystal almost looks as if they've been faceted! I've seen
hundreds of Jeffrey Quarry specimens in my many years of collecting and this is easily the most
impressive. Only a smaller specimen I sold earlier this year from the Tucson Updates comes close.

From the Jeffrey Mine (Quarry), Asbestos, Richmond County, Quebec, Canada.
Measures a very large 18 cm by 20.3 cm by 5 cm in total size.

Gemmy crystals of vibrant purple Fluorite with Barite blades!
Each Fluorite cube displays a slightly darker phantom just beneath the surface. The crystals
are very gemmy and allow one to look inside all the way to the underlying matrix. The surfaces
are very glassy and reflective with only a few tiny contacts along the edges that do no detract.
Cream-colored Barite blades cluster along the left edge and climb upwards over the very top.

Tucson2013-78GarnetDiopsideJeffreyMineCanada7cm.jpg (304276 bytes)

Gorgeous specimen of RARE Pink Garnet with Chrome Diopside on matrix!
This is without a doubt one of the finest Pink Garnets I've offered on the website. The Garnets are
extremely glassy with gemmy interiors. They measure to 1 cm in size which is quite large for this
color variety and the color contrast between the Diopside and Garnet is an amazing sight to say
the least. I find a quality Pink Garnet once or twice every few years and a specimen of this calibre
perhaps once a decade. This is truely a rare opportunity, especially if you collect fine gem minerals.

From the Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos, Quebec, Canada.
Measures 5.2 cm by 7.1 cm by 4.2 cm in total size.

Tucson2009-320SweetwaterCalciteGalena.jpg (110976 bytes)

Without a doubt, this is the most incredible Sweetwater Mine specimen I've ever seen
or owned! Honestly, I know of none better than this. I'm sure better specimens exist but this
combination of large, mirror bright Galenas with a huge pristine, Elmwood-like Calcite (perfectly
terminated) takes the prize for me. I'm not one who gets tremendously excited about Sweetwater
specimens but this piece dazzled me and it earned a good number of long stares while on display
in my Tucson case. Rarely does a specimen of this size survive intact without bumps and bruises.
Even the Golden Calcite tip is perfect (and quite gemmy I might add). This is a true centerpiece
and definately museum quality. If you can find a better Sweetwater piece, buy it on the spot!

The wires move when touched but the specimen is quite stable and the wires firmly attached.

Sparkling specimen featuring Green Grossular Garnets in cluster!
One of the finest examples of this rare Jeffrey Quarry Garnet to appear in a long time!
Green Grossular is much scarcer than Hessonite from this locality and specimens of this
quality are even more difficult to find. The Garnets in the cluster are gemmy to translucent with
a rich green color and glassy surfaces that cause the light dance wildly from crystal to crystal.

Tucson2009-60CAaquamarineB.jpg (91602 bytes)

This stunning Aquamarine specimen is incredibly rare! It looks like an Aqua from
Pakistan or possibly Brazil but it's actually an Aquamarine from California! Elongated
Aquamarines on matrix from San Diego County are so rare that this is the only specimen
I've seen or owned! This specimen was found by John Page in February of 2005 and is
one of only a handful of matrix Aquamarines found in San Diego County. The crystal
itself measures over 5 cm in length (height) and also has a smaller 4.4 cm companion
crystal on the left side. The small dip on the backside of the main crystal at the top is
a natural growth "dimple" where the crystal grew upwards around an inclusion. There's
a slight etching on half of the faces which is pretty much the norm but the others are
glassy. This specimen has been repaired and there are a couple of small restorations
but they do not detract. I didn't even see them at first until closer examination.

I love these combos but they've become very scarce lately. I came across a small collection

3 cm and is bright orange and gemmy! The largest Beryl var. Goshenite measures 3.8 cm and
provides the perfect contrast as it frames the Scheelite. Several smaller Beryls are scattered about.

Fine crystals of Native Lead stretching outwards from a center of Native Copper!
This is easily the most unique Native Lead I've offered. Not only are the crystals sharp and much
more distinct that what one normally sees in this rarity, they are relatively clean of the powder
white Hydrocerussite coating that so many Native Lead specimens are plagued by. They branch out
around a center of Native Copper and I can't even find another Lead-Copper combo mentioned on
mindat.org so the combination must be extremely rare. I know I haven't seen another one at the
shows. The Lead crystals are well formed, slightly elongated, with the largest measuring 2 cm!

Stunning specimen featuring two super gemmy Indicolite Tourmalines with Lepidolite!
What a incredible miniature this is! I love Indicolites and the color combination of the blue
Tourmalines with pink Lepidolite can't be beat. Both crystals are perfectly terminated
and measure in at 3.3 cm and 3.2 cm respectively. The bottom side of the crystals
is also complete and is actually overgrown by Lepidolite. It looks to me like the
crystals came apart in the pocket at that spot, rehealed, and then were covered by
pink Lepidolite. Small portions of the original crystals can be seen there along with a
cast formed by the Lepidolite. A smaller Tourmaline crystal lays across the left side.

I was thrilled to find this specimen! A very small number of these incredible Apatites
appeared about five years ago and quickly disappeared from the market. I only had
one to offer at the time and it was far beneath the quality of this specimen. Actually,
this is the finest elongated Apatite that I've ever seen! While pink Apatites from
Pakistan are fairly common, these crystals mimic the elongated crystal habit of
Aquamarines found in the same region. Most pink Apatite crystals are short and
stout and it is in this way that the above featured specimen is so rare and unusual!

Exceptional specimen of Native Silver wires atop Acanthite covered matrix!
True museum quality, this incredible German Silver has been in a private collection for years but was offered to me
during the Tucson Show and I was happy to acquire it for the website! The aesthetics are stunning and it's difficult to
walk away from the specimen without taking several glances as many people found out for themselves while it was on
display in my showcase. The wires rise up from the Acanthite and climb upwards to create a unique variation of the classic
tree shape! The bottom wires are very thick and the second photo to the right even shows a perfect little "ram's horn"!
The specimen is a true prize for any collection and the antique patina and slight sprinkling of Pyrite are really nice.

Rare combination of Indicolite Tourmaline with Topaz!
Both the Tourmaline and pristine Topaz crystal sit atop a matrix of Albite and Feldspar!
I've never seen this combination before and was amazed when I found the specimen in
Tucson. The Tourmaline begins as a very dark blue with greenish areas (see the small
green Tourmaline in the front) and terminates as a true blue Indicolite! It measures
4.5 cm in length and 2.3 cm in width. The Topaz is a jewel, with pristine surfaces and a
textbook termination. It's colorless and I think that works best aesthetically considering
its Indicolite companion. Extremely glassy, it measures 3 cm in length and 2 cm in width.

Also with Pyrite and Sphalerite crystals! This is the finest Orange Quartz I saw at the show
and honestly I think it was the only one I saw at the show. These specimen have become so
rare that I don't run into them very often unless they come from a private collection as this
one did. The hard white Quartz surface is covered with numerous clusters of deep orange
Quartz crystals with only a a few incomplete crystals and reheals. These specimens are usually
full of breaks and damage when found but this one is in great condition. In the past five years,

MIN#EXCEPTIONAL-2 NEW!

EXCEPTIONAL!! A stunning Walworth Fluorite with Calcite on Dolomite to begin the Tucson 2011 updates!
This amazing Fluorite specimen was offered to me during the Westward Show and gathered quite a crowd
when others saw it. The Fluorite is an elongated cube measuring nearly 4 cm in length! It is completely
pristine with a gemmy blue interior, glassy faces, and modified corners (typical of Walworth crystals).
To top it all off, there is also an internal rainbow which is probably caused by a transparent inclusion
of Selenite near the left corner. The above photograph shows part of the rainbow and it grows more
intense as the specimen is rotated. I can count the number of great Walworth Fluorites I've seen on just
two hands and this is both the finest and largest of them all. A rare opportunity for the Fluorite collector!

EXCEPTIONAL! Aesthetic specimen of Native Copper with a huge crystal at top!
This specimen goes perfectly with the Smoky-Aqua above because I consider both to
be natural works of art. This Copper specimen looks like a sculpture! It starts with an
elongated crystal at the base and climbs upwards with a repeating pattern of angles
and terraces until it reaches the top, where a 5 cm crystal sits. The crystal is not
completely formed due to matrix limitation on the bottom side, but the faces that
are there are sharp and distinct. There's also a beautiful zone of iridescence
covering the crystal face on the far right side. The matrix at the base accents the
Copper and is so perfectly placed that the specimen sits upright without a stand.

CLASSIC! Tremendous specimen of rootbeer-brown Fluorite cubes atop Celestite blades!
This is old material from the find of 30 or so years ago and the color is somewhat different
from the new find specimens. I describe it as a deeper, rootbeerish variety of brown and I think
that's fairly accurate. The slightly modified cubes measure 5.2 cm and 4.5 cm in size. I'm really
glad I have this specimen to offer to show the color variation between the old and new finds!

incredible sharpness of the twin and the nearly perfect right angle! Definately the best combination specimen I

it really is! The top photos show the specimen from the frontal display side and

Obviously, the nodule was once hollow and gradually filled with various crystals
growth. The golden Calcite at top is actually larger on the bottom side opening!

Exceptional!! Museum quality, cherry-red Rhodochrosite rhomb atop Quartz needle matrix!
This is the finest Rhodochrosite I have ever seen from Peru. That's right, it's from Peru, not
the Sweet Home Mine! This specimen rates in the top 10 of all Rhodochrosites found at
Pasto Bueno and boasts a very impressive provenance. The rhomb at top is near perfection,
measuring 4.5 cm tip to tip and nearly 3 cm front to back. The color is a deep cherry-red
and glows under lighting. The matrix consists of tiny needle Quartz and the entire specimen
measures 8 cm by 8 cm in size. Specimens of this quality from Peru don't come along very
often as most are in private collections. This is truely a unique opportunity for all collectors.

New Find!! Exceptional specimen of very crystalline Native Gold on Quartz matrix!
I'm told these specimens were found during a roadcut and they first appeared at the Dallas
Mineral Show. I was amazed by the crystallization but probably shouldn't be since so many
great specimens have been appearing from Nevada in recent years. The color of this Gold
is much richer than what I normally see with Nevada specimens so I'm guessing the Silver
percentage is lower than other in-state localities. It reminds me a lot of 16 to 1 material.

VERY RARE!! Wow, this is a matrix Rhodochrosite on Quartz from the Climax Mine!
Anyone who knows Colorado minerals and Rhodochrosite knows just how rare matrix
Climax pieces are - especially one that has large crystals. I've seen two on the past
ten years of looking for one so I was thrilled to find this specimen. True, the Rhodos
aren't Sweet Home quality but they are very good for Colorado and display some
excellent color with glassy surfaces. The rhomb in the front has flaking and measures
4 cm while the smaller rhomb in back is complete and measures 2.5 cm in size. The
outer faces appear to be included with a Quartz drusy which is common for Climax.
I'm being very picky here considering the specimen's rarity but I want to be accurate.

a cluster of smaller cream-white colored Calcite xls. This specimen is from the Shimen Mine

if you look closer at both terminations of the largest crystal, you will red Realgar inclusions
(possible phantoms) inside the points! The close-up photos at bottom display both these

EXCEPTIONAL!! Gorgeous plate of Aquamarine crystals on Muscovite with bi-color Fluorite!
This specimen is a sight to see! The large 4.4 cm pink and green Fluorite is easily the focal point
but the blue Aquamarines provide the perfect surrounding cast. There's something about these
combo plates that always makes them exciting to see. Unfortunately, when you find an Aqua -
Fluorite combo, the Fluorite is usually pale or nearly colorless. The Fluorite on this plate has
some of the strongest color I've seen in while. When held under a good light, the pastel colors
leap out and contrast beautifully with the blue Aquamarines. This specimen was originally a
much larger plate that I had professionally trimmed down to remove the excess matrix. The
end result was a large, beautiful plate with just the right amount of balance and lots of color.

EXCEPTIONAL!! Museum quality specimen of Native Leaf Silver atop Silver dendrites!
This cabinet sized grouping of Silver sits atop a matrix of Acanthite! I've never seen a

occuring and was not etched. Each leaf is covered with small crystal trigons in very
much the same way a leaf Gold specimen would be. The bottom half of the specimen
is composed entirely of small Silver crystals and Silver dendrites! These were etched
from the surrounding Acanthite matrix. The number of Silver crystals in this specimen
must be in the thousands and all are sharp and distinct with a unique satiny luster.

"The Providence Nugget"
WOW!!! HUGE and spectacular crystalline Gold Nugget from Northern Australia!
This specimen is nearly the size of my hand! It is one of the largest Gold nuggets ever found
in Northern Australia since most are usually found in the much richer Gold fields in Southern
Australia. It was found several years ago by prospector Jack Lange, buried under only 45 cm
(18 inches) of soil. The amazing find was featured in 2005 in Australian Gold, Gem, and
Treasure Magazine
. The entire weight of the nugget is around 1100 grams or roughly 35.4
ounces of very pure (usually 22 - 23 karat) Gold! It is composed entirely of elongated and
flattened (slightly hoppered) Gold crystals with a tiny bit of Quartz. To quote Mr. Lange -

"Crystalline nuggets of this size (1100.3 grams) are almost unheard of in modern times!!!
It has a brilliant, rich crystalline sheen and a vibrant color suggesting high purity, with
some fern leaf patterns near the edges. It is studded with tiny quartz growths, some of them
crystalline, with a total weight of less than 20 grams."

This is truely a unique opportunity to acquire a large nugget with a good amount of prestige!

wires are present at bottom and these curl inwards and outwards, accenting the entire base and
trunk of the tree. Also, the entire specimen is covered with the most beautiful antiquish patina which
actually becomes iridescent in places. A very fine specimen that is second only to the Freilich piece.

INCREDIBLE AND RARE!! A tremendous specimen of Native Wire Silver on massive Acanthite!
This was one of only two specimens that appeared at the Denver Mineral Show and I grabbed it
immediately. The story behind this 10 cm tall wire-rope is pretty amazing but from what I understand,
a small find of wire Silver was found in the late 1970's at the Dukat mine which is mainly known for its
massive Acanthite ore. One of the miners, at some risk to himself at the time, saved a few specimens
and put them into storage for posterity. The specimens were later sold and the two that I saw in
Denver were possibly the two finest of the small number hoarded some three decades ago. I can
honestly say I've never seen any others and only know of one other which is currently owned by
a dealer friend of mine (we split the find). I was struck by the grace and luster of this specimen
as well as the matrix (which I ALWAYS prefer with Silvers). Definately a unique opportunity!

A TREMENDOUS specimen of Native Wire Silver atop Acanthite crystal covered matrix!
This would have to rank as one of the top three finest Silver specimens I've ever seen or
owned. It's definately the finest (and largest) German Silver I've shown on the website.
This specimen came out of the mines in Freiberg in the mid 1800's and was on display
in the Freiberg museum for many decades before being deaccessed in the mid 1980's.
From there it changed hands to Wayne Thompson before being purchased by Dave
Wilber for the Joseph Freilich Mineral Collection. I can't stress enough just how large
and incredible this specimen is. It's one of the true classics from the Freiberg Mining
District and is a Silver collector's dream specimen. A specimen of the quality and
caliber comes along maybe once every decade and this one will happily remain in
my case until the right collector comes along and takes it for his or her collection.

This photograph displays the Pala Princess in its entirety with this specimen outlined in blue

The famous PALA PRINCESS!!
Exceptional Aqua-morganite crystal sitting next to a pinkish-orange Morganite on Albite!
This specimen is from the world famous find at the Elizabeth R Mine in Pala, San Diego County,
California and represents a portion of the only find of bluish-pink Aqua-Morganite Beryl that
I know of in America. The largest hexagonal crystal exhibits a blue interior which gradually
changes to a light pink. This crystal is large, measuring 8.5 cm in size. To the right of this
crystal is a pure Morganite of a beautiful orangish-pink hue. It measures 4.5 cm in size.
Surrounding this crystal are several smaller crystals of light pink Morganite. This is the
second piece of the Pala Princess that I own and offer on this website but it is by far my
favorite. I think the contrast between the Aqua-Morganite and the pure Morganite is
incredible. The overall display and balance of the specimen is also exceptional. The
Pala Princess (once a single specimen) now exists in just four or five individual pieces.
One is in a museum, another in a private collection, I own two, and there may be another
one or two specimens floating around somewhere. I feel this piece rates in the top three.

Extraordinary cluster of Beryl var. Emerald crystals with Rutile!
Rarely does one fine such a large, aesthetic specimen of Emerald from North Carolina!
I've seen better specimens from the Rist Mine but they are all in museums or carry a
huge price tag. I was VERY fortunate to come across this specimen while in Tucson.
Not only is it aesthetic but it is dramatic. The crystals are all complete and either
terminated or rehealed on the terminations. There are no incomplete crystals here.
The fat Emerald crystal at the bottom sits on a small amount of Calcite matrix and
is accented by lustrous Rutiles around the base. It rises some 3.5 cm until it finds
an incredible 7 cm Emerald, which angles upwards and intersects with a smaller
3.3 cm Emerald which lends support to the entire arrangement. Both crystals are
incredibly smooth for a North Carolina specimen (usually etched) and are quite
gemmy with excellent color. The 7 cm crystal also has a facet-like termination
at top! There is one repair on the this crystal but it is literally invisible and I
challenge anyone to find it. I know where the crystal was professionally put back
together and even I can't see a line using a 10x loupe. Apparently the largest
Emerald naturally came apart in the pocket due to its size. This is a common
occurance with large gem crystals and in no way detracts from the specimen.
From the North American Emerald Mine (Rist Mine), Hiddenite, North Carolina.
Measures 7.8 cm by 5.5 cm in total size.

This is the finest Brazilian Morganite I have ever seen perched on matrix! The crystal is absolute perfection,
measuring 8.5 cm in size! I liken this beautiful specimen to a sunset behind snow covered mountain peaks.
With its matrix of Cleavelandite and Shorl accenting, the specimen measures 15 cm by 12.5 cm in size.
From Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The perfect companion to the Afghanistan Morganite above!

MIN#EXCEPTIONAL-1 SOLD!

Incredibly rare specimen featuring Native Silver wires atop Sulfide matrix with Quartz!
This is the rarest Silver I've owned! This incredibly aesthetic specimen is from the original Silver workings
in the California Gulch near Leadville, California! The earliest Silvers that were mined consisted of fine
wires but later ores were of a lower quality and the wires all but disappeared. The above specimen is
definately from the early mining period and I've never seen another Leadville Silver that even comes
close to its quality. Interestingly enough, the town of Leadville was built on Silver and Gold mining but
later made a living from Lead and Molybdenite. Today, not much is happening but the town still thrives.
(Special note: The specimen has been tested and verified as Leadville by Dr. Terry Wallace - Univ. of Arizona)
Circa 1870's - 1880's - From the California Gulch Area, Leadville, Lake County, Colorado.
It measures 5 cm by 5.7 cm by 4.4 cm in total size.

HALL OF FAME SPECIMEN!
Deep red Rhodochrosite rhombs perfectly matched with Violet zoned Fluorite cubes with Quartz!
This amazing combination plate is offered here for the second time in the past decade and I'm thrilled to
have it back again. The combination of Rhodo and Fluorite is always a gorgeous sight and this specimen
is covered from end to end with both red and violet! The rhombs of Rhodochrosite and Fluorite cubes
average around 1 cm with some larger crystals mixed in. The dark Tetrahedrite really makes the color pop.
From the Burgundy Pocket, Sweet Home Mine, Alma, Colorado.
Measures 14.7 cm by 6 cm by 2.8 cm in total size.

Exceptional cluster of gorgeous Red Beryl crystals in and atop Rhyolite matrix!
Honestly, Red Beryl clusters of this quality are so rare that I can count the number of them
that I've seen on just one hand. This ranks as one of the finest with gemmy tipped crystals
and super glassy faces. I owned this specimen some years ago and I'm very pleased to
have it back on the website for the second time. This is truely a unique opportunity.
From the Wah Wah Mountains near Delta, Utah
Measures 6.4 cm by 5.2 cm by 5.2 cm with 1.6 cm and 1.3 cm Red Beryl crystals.

MIN#EXCEPTIONAL-6 SOLD!

EXCEPTIONAL!! An amazing large cabinet specimen of Fluorite cubes with Galena on Quartz!
This is easily one of the finest Rogerley specimens I've ever laid my eyes on. The Fluorite cubes are
typically bi-colored with twinning and these are no different. What I love about this specimen and what
makes it so unique is the way the Fluorite climbs the Quartz stalactite on the upper left side of the plate.
There's also a hollow spot in the matrix just right of the bottom center. The overall visual impact is a
specimen of great 3-dimensionality and one that is almost sculptural in appearance! This is so different
from the normal Rogerley specimen which is usually flat with very little relief. The specimen is in great
condition with very little in the way of contacts and there are no repairs. This is a true centerpiece Fluorite!
From the Rogerley Mine, Rogerley Quarry, Frosterley, Weardale, North Pennines, Co. Durham, England.
Measures 19.5 cm by 16 cm by 12.8 cm in total size.

This small find occurred about 40 years ago and very few specimens actually came to market.
This is the first that I've seen and the gemmy Calcite twin is in pristine condition with lustrous
surfaces and a gorgeous internal glow! The Fluorite consists of small purple cubes on matrix and
offers the perfect contrast for the Calcite. A rare opportunity for Calcite and locality collectors!

From the Eldorado Mine, Port Radium, Mackenzie District, Northwest Territories, Canada.
(This locality was discovered in 1900 and mined as a source of Silver and Radium in the 1930's.
It was dewatered in 1976 and mined again for its Silver and Copper reserves before closing for
good in 1982. The mine and its settlement were destroyed by fire and no longer exist today.)

EXCEPTIONAL! Classic specimen of micro-crystalline Azurite layered over Malachite!
This is easily my favorite look when it comes to Azurite specimens from Bisbee. I enjoy the larger
crystals like everyone else, but the color of these botryoidal Azurites with sparkling micro-xls over
green Malachite always catches my eye first! This specimen also has a lighter blue layer of
botryoidal Azurite beneath the drusy surface and a small patch shows through at the very top
where the drusy growth never quite completed its coverage. Circa late 1880-1890s!

the specimen! Acanthite and Silver combos from Mexico are rarely seen at the shows.

MIN#EXCEPTIONAL-20 NEW!

VERY RARE specimen featuring a large Yellow Topaz crystal with Quartz on matrix!
An amazing old time classic from the world famous Schneckenstein locality! I've seen a handful
of these in the past decade and this is by far the largest and most impressive specimen. Most
Topaz crystals I see from Schneckenstein are 1 cm in size or smaller but this terminated gem
measures 2.7 cm or more than a full inch! The color is a deep gemmy yellow and the termination
is pristine. A terminated Quartz crystal lays across the top of the Topaz. By the way, this crystal
has not been replaced or glued back into the matrix. It is completely natural and untampered with.
The Schneckenstein Topaz locale is now off limits to collection and most fine specimen like this
one were collected a long time ago. This specimen dates back to the early 1800's or late 1700's!
From the Schneckenstein cliff (Königskrone Topaz Mine), Kielberg, Klingenthal, Saxony, Germany.
Measures 6 cm by 6.8 cm by 3.5 cm in size.

Huge authentic Silver Bar from the Nuestra Señora de Atocha Shipwreck!
A little bit of history - The Silver ore for this bar was mined by the native inhabitants under
Spanish rule and working conditions were less than favorable. One can also imagine how many
Silver specimens were destroyed in the production of this bar but the safety of the miners and
preservation of fine specimens was not on the minds of the Spanish rulers in 1622 - the year this
bar was cast. It was hauled a great distance from the Oruro mint to Portobello, a port in modern
day Panama, and then loaded aboard the ill-fated Atocha. The Atocha later ran into bad weather
and sank off the Florida Keys on September 6th, 1622. Only 5 of 265 passengers and crew
aboard the ship survived the wreck. After the sinking, the ship was located by its still visible
mast in 55 feet of water and initial salvage attempts were undertaken. Unfortunately (or
fortunately for later historians), the divers, who could only reach the wreck by holding their
breaths, were not able to break through the hatches to remove the valuable cargo and were
forced to leave the area to obtain proper recovery equipment. While they were gone, a second
storm ravaged what remained of the shipwreck and removed all traces of its location. It remained
lost until Mel Fisher and his salvors located the remains of the ship's hull on July 20th, 1985.

Partially dated 16?? - Graded 8.0
Weight = 80 Troy Lbs and .64 Troy Ounces of 2380/2400 (99.16% pure) Silver.

date (probably 21 or 22) have been worn away. A Quinto or tax stamp can be seen on the lower
left side of the bar with the"V" stamp representing the Atocha's ship master Jacobe de Vreder.

Right side photo showing the very bold "S penetrated by upside down V" monogram
which was the personal mark of M. Salgado. Bars were marked with this monogram
when M. Salgado was shipping silver back home to Spain for himself. Unfortunately
for him, this bar didn't make it. To the left of the monogram is a second Quinto or tax
stamp and to the lower right is a second "V" stamp for ship master Jacobe de Vreder
indicating the bar had been officially recorded in the ship manifest. I can't recall ever
seeing another Atocha bar with two "V" stamps so this may or may not be unique.

The "V" on the far left corner of the bar is the stamp of ship master Jacobe de Vreder, who unfortunately
went down with the ship and died in the wreck. All bars had to be stamped with Vreder's initial to show
they were properly recorded in the ship's manifest and not contraband. The diagonal line or cut is known
as the "defense tax" line. The Spanish government would cut along this line once the bar reached Spain
and take possession of the silver to the left of the line as payment for the defense of the fleet. The three
dots on the upper left corner are a mystery. I'm not sure what they mean but I would suspect that they
might be indicative of the bar number. Perhaps this was the third bar that this particular owner
had placed aboard the Atocha. The two round stamps are known as "Quintos" or tax stamps. If you
look closely, just to the upper left of the Quinto near the double scoop, you will notice a date which
reads
P16Z1 or 1621. The date is somewhat faint but it is readable as outlined in blue in the close up.

Tucson2008-472middle.jpg (246042 bytes)

Atocha bar from the middle - Note the assayer's double scoop! The assayer took two scoops of metal -
the first to test the purity and the second to confirm the results. He kept the metal as payment for his services.
The placement of the double scoop on the top of the bar indicates that the bar was minted (cast) in
Potosí.
The roman numerals above the double scoop indicate the bar's mintage number - that being #2317.
The roman numerals below the double scoop indicate the bar's metal fineness (2380/2400) or 99.16% pure silver.

Tucson2008-472right.jpg (258160 bytes)

A very bold and impressive monogram! The M4D with <> diamond at top indicates two shippers.

J. Delgado was shipping this bar for Diego de Mercado at the time the Atocha went down.
To the right of the monogram is a very distinct and well preserved Quinto stamp with a full shield visible in the
design. Off further to the left is an older monogram which has been completely cancelled by numerous chops.
Is that another dot on the upper right of the bar???

Tucson2008-472edge.jpg (97568 bytes)

The bar from the side showing just how thick this ingot actually is! Its weight of 92 pounds and 7.68 ounces is
extremely heavy for an Atocha bar and the heaviest I have ever owned or offered. Bars over 90 pounds were very
scarce due to the difficulty in transporting them from the mint to Panama. Most bars ranged between 70 - 85 lbs.

The bar from the side showing just how thick this ingot actually is! Its weight of 92 pounds and 7.68 ounces is
extremely heavy for an Atocha bar and the heaviest I have ever owned or offered. Bars over 90 pounds were very
scarce due to the difficulty in transporting them from the mint to Panama. Most bars ranged between 70 - 85 lbs.

It was hauled a great distance from the Potosí mint to Portobello, a port in modern
day Panama, and then loaded aboard the ill-fated Atocha.

One of the clearest, finest dates I've seen on an Atocha bar! This bar is very clean and features the unusual
"starburst" cuts on both the left and right sides. Also, the Quinto tax stamp are incredibly clear and free of marks!
This bar also features a slanted defense cut line on the right side representing the amount to be cut away for taxes.

The bar is accompanied by the original Certificate of Authenticity.
